Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN Series Debut

B"H
March 23, 2017 - Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California - Golden Boy Boxing
From: Bert Sugar's Punchlines

NABF SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE
Randy "El Matador" Cabellero (23-0, 14 KOs)
vs
Jesus "Estrella" Ruiz (37-7-5, 25 KOs)

Mr. Cabellero exhibited some tick a' ring-rust, as well he shoulda -- coming off a 15-month shelving. This upon losing his title on the scales and suffering a foot-or-something injury. Tsuris. There was tsuris. Much. The ring-rust made mention of is done-so on account of his rigid refusal to double-jab and/or throw combinations; matters of timing. This left the window open for the head-butting and elbow-throwing Mr. Ruiz (see: his five draws) free to do some a' dat.

In the end, the theatrical and somewhat kooky-seeming Ruiz came up unanimously short on cards of 96-94 courtesy of Ms. Carla Caiz and Mr. Max DeLuca. Mr. Zac Young saw the fight 97-93. Me? ...

NABF MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE
Jason “El Animal” Quigley (12-0, 10 KOs)
vs
Glen “Jersey Boy” Tapia (23-3, 15 KOs)

If the old adage of 'we get the politicians we deserve,' is true in Trump's America; true too it doth be in boxing. Only rewrit in: "We get the gate-keepers we deserve." From a pugilist only slightly more eloquent and fleet-of-foot than any ol' punching bag in Mr. Tapia -- young Mr. Quigley created his own personal gate-keeper.

The already busy Middleweight division won't yet be seeing a pale addition in Quigley. He needs more time, all agree. All hath agreed to that before... mayhaps all wilt always wilt. The Irishman should have done away with Tapia in the third. Did not. Instead, he tired and was oft baited into unimpressively fighting his opponent's fight and only occasionally controlling distance. The results read unanimously in his favor, but the way there did not show the growth expected. Them scores were: 100-90 Ms. Carla Caiz, 99-91 Zac Young, and 98-92 Max DeLuca. Me? ...

Quigley 10 10 10 09 09 09 10 10 10 10 = 97
Tapia     09 09 09 10 10 10 09 09 09 09 = 93
