Felix Assouline II SaintS L'ange Noir | Cigar Review Redux by Kaplowitz

"Have you Kaplowitz'd to-day?"

Felix Assouline II SaintS
WRAPPER: Jamastran Criollo '98 Ligero
BINDER: Jamastran
FILLER: Jamastran & Jalapa

FORMAT: 6.5x56 Figurado
ORIGIN: Nicaraguan
STRENGTH: Full

NOTES: Heavy, round, dark. Deep, too. Throw in rich, as well. Luscious? Sure, why not? Comfortably if not luxuriously-so somber but not sad and no I cannot quantify that. Notes of dark chocolate and espresso. There's an inherent sweetness there, a molasses. A separate and later fudge brownie. Spiciness? Black pepper and smoked paprika tandem. Behind that spacious front is a soy sauce enhanced umami-fest of roasted meats, kasha, barley, oily leather and a fungal somethin'. Toasted cream fils the corners. Underneath it all is a barnyard and composted earth partnership with a heavy hibiscus essence. Quite nuanced and more than moderately complex.

Burns on a half-tick self-correcting wobble. B I G smoke out-put both actively & passively. Rather raggedy ash ain't winning no beauty contests but we don't have those anymore. Draws smoothly but there are some slight changes in as much as smoke to smoke-hole. I feel I'm nit-picking. While I'm doing that -- the cap does lose some form at the nub but too, smoke stays quite cool.

FINAL GRADE: A-
A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 F 0-59

I first reviewed this blend in its "La Petite Mort" iteration ((( link )))
