Bombay Tobak Vintage Reserve MQBA Diadem | Cigar Review by Kaplowitz

"Have you Kaplowitz'd to-day?"

MQBA Diadem
WRAPPER: Ecuadorian
BINDER: Ecuadorian
FILLER: Ecuadorian

FORMAT: "Diadem" (756) Double-tapered Figurado
ORIGIN: Tabacos de Costa Rica
STRENGTH: Medium

NOTES: Fusion cuisine comes to mind with many a Bombay offering and this MBQA is no exception. The exotic made contextually familiar. Is any of this making sense? How 'bout this: bright & light on the draw, the notes settle into a sweet darkening yet still lively depth. Never heavy, but pleasantly rich and lingering. Citrus and whispered pepper backed with white ginger and hint of clove. Nutmeg. Papaya. Cream stuffed middling with suede addition. Blonde roast coffee, white chocolate, honey, nougat. Underneath lies or lays sunny sweet/sour earthen pale grains, and cleanly-so. Retro-hale sees a chamomile come-on.

Draws a bit snug-like but not egregiously-so, particularly when taking the tapering into account. Burn-line is a self-correcting half-wobble. Seams and pack density hold admirably. Voluminous smoke out-put both actively & passively -- leaving a sweetly tantalizing room-note.

"MBombay has a single farm release. Next month, the company will show off MQBA—prounounced em-kyoo-bha—a cigar produced entirely of tobacco from a farm in Ventana, Ecuador. The company leases the 70-acre farm and planted the first crop in 2009. ... The cigars will debut at the 2018 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, which begins July 13 in Las Vegas." - www.Halfwheel.com (2018)

"Bombay Tobak has positioned MQBA as a part of its Vintage Reserve series. The Vintage Reserve Series started late in 2015 and it is a series that focuses on aged tobaccos in the blend. The first installment of the series was under the MBombay brand with the MBombay KeSara Vintage Reserve Nikka. This was followed up a year later with the MBombay Vintage Reserve Lancero 1973. With the MQBA line focusing on aged tobaccos as well, it made sense to make MQBA an extension of the Vintage Reserve Series." - www.Cigar-Coop.com (2018)
