The Senor Esugars blend took three years for Steven Bailey (whom's family's been growing tobacco in Southern Virginia since the 1860s) to formulate. It actually is named for Bailey's dog, Oscar, which simply don't make a lick 'a sense. Until Courtney Smith, director of brand development steps in, clarifies thusly: "Señor Esugars is our translation of ‘Mr. Sugars', which is Steven's nickname for Oscar."
Smith goes on: "Steven has been working on a Mexican San Andres maduro blend for a few years and when he nailed it, we thought it was the perfect fit for Mr. Sugars -- with a couple of name tweaks. The San Andres maduro wrapper warranted the change to "Señor" from ‘Mr.' and the ‘E' before Sugars is a phonetic spelling of how the rollers at La Zona pronounce Sugars."
