Santa Anita Park -- With Mr. Martin Garcia in his saddle and stable-mate Uninvited set out ahead as a 10 length lead target for Arrogate in yesterday's (1/15) workout; trainer Mr. Bob Baffert noted: "I'm going to put that horse a little bit further in front of him, Arrogate just needs a little target." The four year-old Breeders' Cup Classic champion and finalist for the Eclipse Award Horse of the Year oft won't open up if out-front, so the tact of a rabbit was employed with 'nuff success to feature an easy set-off with a :23 4/5 opening 1/4 mile.
The half-mile came at :48 and then the colt by Unbridled's Song began to close ground around the turn, off a smoothly powerful lead change. With five furlongs gone in a time of 1:00 2/5, Arrogate swallowed up his rabbit by the sixth furlong time of 1:12 2/5. The horse whom forms one half of a $12M de facto match-race inaugural (GI) Pegasus World Cup Invitational finished another seventh furlong in a gallop -- culminating in a time of 1:24 4/5. His six furlong breeze was the fastest of 35 same distance Sunday works.
Mr. Baffert shared his plan which makes this Arrogate's penultimate Pegasus jaunt-prep. One more work in California, set for January 22nd, then the journey to Gulfstream Park on January 24th. Baffert employed similar logistics whenst his champion ward smoked the Travers Stakes (G1) field by 13 1/2 lengths this past August.
