Gran Habano Cigars Gran Reserva No. 5 (2012) - Cigar Review by Kaplowitz

"Only Kaplowitz."

Gran Habano Gran Reserva No. 5 2012
WRAPPER: Nicaraguan Corojo
BINDER: Nicaraguan
FILLER: Nicaraguan, Costa Rican

FORMAT: Super Robusto (654)
ORIGIN: G.R. Tabacaleras Unidas, S.A., Honduras.

NOTES: Baby-bottom smooth. Billy Dee Williams pitching malt liquor smooth. Cream (w/ java sploosh) & cocoa butter ride high, braced by white pepper sauteed in salted butter. Lilts of lemongrass & sweet tangy berry lay twixt that and undertones of rich yet bright earth. Complexities happen calmly via topnotes trickling thru middlings into (unto) underbelly. Superb draw. Burn wobbles a self-correcting half-tick in 1/3. Finish is thick and cool, sweet w/ just the right bit of twang, long and gently nuanced.

"This summer, Gran Habano will add the fifth installment to its Gran Reserva line as the company has announced the Gran Reserva #5 2012. ... As for the name, 2012 references the year that the cigar was made. A representative from Gran Habano told halfwheel that the line is using the best 10% of the tobacco from what is used for the regular production Corojo #5, age it for seven to eight years, and then roll it into cigars. Those finished cigars then age for between three and five years, though this most recent release got a sixth year of rest." -  (2018)

"The newest cigar piggy sent to market by Gran Habano is a Gran Reserva collection addition. This particular offering has received an extra three (3) years of aging on top of its brethren's usual, which typically see 4-6 years-or-so. Even tho age has mellowed me some, you cock-sucking mother fucker -- it apparently has not had the same effect on this GH, which is billed as a Full offering. Rolled at the G.R. Tabacaleras Unidas S.A. factory in Honduras, the blend employs a Nicaraguan wrapper/binder over Nica & Costa Rican guts. Five (5) sizes shall be available: Corona Gorda, Gran Robusto, Gordo, a probably evil 666, & a 770. They will be packaged in 20ct. boxes, in a production of just over 200K total." - Me (2018)
